Oz Pearlman Is Headlining the White House Correspondents’ Dinner — And Mentalism Is Having a Moment

If you haven’t heard already, Oz The Mentalist aka Oz Pearlman has been tapped to headline the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25th. After years of comedians dividing the room, the WHCA landed on a mentalist with quite the following on social media. I have a lot of thoughts about why this happened but that’s for another post.

On the surface though, a performer who’s job it is to create wonder and excitement in the hearts and minds of all - all while holding the attention of hundreds of sharp, skeptical journalists and Washington insiders was probably a big part of the decision to hire him.

It says something about where live entertainment is headed.

Why Mentalism, Why Now?

There’s a reason mentalism keeps showing up at the highest-profile events in the world. It’s one of the only performance art forms that’s genuinely personal - the audience isn’t watching something happen *to* a stranger on stage. They’re part of it. Their thoughts, their choices, their reactions are the show.

Standing Ovation for Vinny DePonto: Mindplay at Arena Stage in DC

That’s a hard thing to manufacture. It’s unforgettable in a way that a typical keynote speaker or a cover band simply isn’t. And when it’s done well, it defies barriers and connects people to their own minds and each other in a deeper more meaningful way.

About me…

I’m a New York-based mentalist who has spent my career carefully crafting genuine performances that connect people. My last critically acclaimed show Mindplay used mentalism, theatrics, and psychology to build intimate performance that centered around our memories and the ways in which we see the world through them. You can read more here. Beyond my touring theatrical shows, I also am hired for private events, corporate functions, Broadway, and beyond. If you’ve seen one of my shows or caught me on television, you already know that I care about taking the audience with me to somewhere unexpected. All with joyful curiousity - never by embarrassing my audience.

I am selective about the events I take on, which is worth knowing if you’re in the early stages of planning something.
